Savannah Textile Museum & Institute

Past and present amalgamate in the Savannah Textile Museum and Institute. The restoration of the building brings back life to one hundred years of history with an innovative system: three fabric diffusers penetrate the floors and bring light to the otherwise dark spaces, creating a dramatic and iconic effect while enhancing the materiality of the project.

The north façade is substituted with glass, maximizing the interior exposure to the river and becoming part of the growing entertainment district on River Street. The original brick of the south, west, and east facades is exposed, freed from paint and stucco, and part of the windows and doors are covered to create what appear to be false windows from the outsides but are actually niches containing the diorama gallery and benches for the public.
